Third Grade
Composting
Kristin McCreery, a teacher at the Magothy Cooperative Preschool, presented to the 3rd graders (95-100) about the importance of composting and how it helps the environment. The school’s PTA purchased a new composting bin for the school. Daily, the students collect compostable materials during school lunches and add it to the compost bin. The students also take joy in spinning the composter during recess and observing how the food waste has begun to break down and are looking forward to using the compost in the Spring as fertilizer for the native plants in our garden.
Reading & Writing
In Reading class the students (95-100) read two articles from Newsela.com about recycling. Then in Writing class they wrote their own articles to share with their friends and family about the importance of recycling and how to be stewards for their communities.
