Summary
In Pasadena, Maryland between the Magothy River and Bodkin Creek, Bodkin Elementary school is located in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Bodkin, a National Blue Ribbon School, Maryland Blue Ribbon School, Wellness School and Green School has always had a great interest and enthusiasm for environmental literacy. Our students, administrators, teachers and parents are proud of this accomplishment and work diligently to extend our environmental knowledge to meet the growing challenges of the 21st century. During the past fourteen years, Bodkin has maintained and enriched our Green School Program. We believe our school has met the goals for our Sustainable Certification.
Environmental Issue Curriculum Instruction at BES continues to be infused within our current curriculum aligned with the Maryland Environmental Literacy Curriculum. During the past 14 years we have maintained our past Green School Projects:
In addition to this, we have expanded our projects to include school wide recycling efforts. Our school and community support our textile recycling bin, dog waste collection stations, and QR code environmental learning stations. Students and teachers are encouraged to use the outdoor seating area to participate in environmental awareness issues to help foster a love for learning. Located in close proximity to the outdoor seating is our newly built book box which houses donated used books for students to enjoy during recess.
Bodkin has a dedicated Green School Committee to ensure our school is doing the best we can to enforce and encourage environmental awareness of all topics including, but not limited to, energy conservation, waste management, and celebrations.
Here at Bodkin Elementary School, students continue to learn about the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem, and participate in environmental action projects that empower them to become environmentally literate citizens. The entire Bodkin Elementary School community is committed to having a positive impact on present and future environmental issues. We look forward to upcoming ideas and projects and seeing where our Green School Endeavors take us.
