Top Five Accomplishments
We are very proud of our school-wide efforts to maintain our Green School Projects from the previous years. Along with our Top 5 Accomplishments, we are proud that every grade level participates in an Environmental Unit of Study. We are creating active stewards who understand that change begins with them! Here is a list of our Top 5 Accomplishments:
#1. Maintaining our Monarch Butterfly Garden, Nectar Beds, and Herb Gardens:
Although our first graders participate in their Environmental Literacy Unit on Monarchs, the entire school community enjoys seeing nature in action as they watch the life cycle of these amazing creatures.
#2. Composting:
Currently, our students K-5 collect food scraps during their lunch shifts on Waste-Free Wednesday and the composted material is used on our playground garden.
#3 Waste-Free Wednesday:
As a way to cut down on trash, Waste-Free Wednesday is a dedicated day each week for students to wear green, make a conscious effort to pack their lunches in reusable containers, and to take only what they can eat.
#4 Doggie Waste Stations:
In-order to promote awareness in waste management, doggie waste stations were purchased and placed strategically around the school property.
#5. Textile Bin:
This project is twofold- Textiles are collected helping to keep millions of unwanted pounds out of landfills and our school receives funding for green school initiatives.
